When asked about what initially drew him to dentistry, he quickly replies “I’ve wanted to be a dentist since I was 9 years old” and reflects back. Growing up in a small town Dr Franklin’s dentist’s office about a mile from his house. Because I spent so much time there and at the orthodontist as a child getting cavities filled and teeth straightened, it made a great impression on me. I remember as a fourth grader being dropped off at the dentist by my mom on her way to teach school. The dentist would make sure the laughing gas had worn off after the appointment and then I’d walk home by myself. How times have changed!
Another activity that seemed to make dentistry a natural calling was his enjoyment of working with his hands and attention to detail. It was building model cars and airplanes in his childhood, today it’s creating beautiful healthy smiles.
After his third year of dental school he decided that the two aspects of dentistry he enjoyed most were pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, so he decided to specialize in both and completed an additional four years of school. He began his full-time private practice in orthodontics and pediatric dentistry in 1996, opening offices in Austin and Dripping Springs.
Patient Care
My goal for each patient that comes to Smiles of Austin and Smiles of Dripping Springs is for them to know that we truly care about them and want to give them the best treatment possible. I love creating life-changing smiles through the art and science of orthodontics and the relationships that are built through sincere care and trust. Seeing former patients stop by to visit us reminds me the relationship is what means the most!
A perfect day at work would be one where every patient had excellent oral hygiene, no broken brackets and 100% compliance on rubber band wear. We strive for 100% satisfaction with the care and service our office gives each day! I love my job and making others feel special.

Family
I am blessed to have an amazing family! In 1986 while attending the University of Texas, I met my incredible wife, Sherry and we have three wonderful children, Jenna, Jace, and Josh. They are the perfect combination of love and grace. I have always loved Austin, the hills, lakes and natural beauty. I am so thankful to call it my home and raise my family here.
For the past 10 years I’ve spent quite a bit of my free time coaching football and baseball at Regents School of Austin. Coaching my sons and mentoring young men has been a rewarding experience.
My dad instilled a love for the outdoors in me and I have tried to pass that on to my children. I love to hunt and fish with my family. And when time permits, watching the sun rise on any lake is what soothes my soul. I’m a pretty simple guy.
Community
I spend most of my free time volunteering as a coach and mentor. I love helping boys develop into young men who will someday lead their families and communities well. I also enjoy participating in community service projects with my church, Austin Ridge Bible Church.
